Managing Diabetes During Pregnancy with Impact Healthcare

The first positive pregnancy test held a kaleidoscope of emotions. Joy, excitement, and a flicker of apprehension danced within me. You see, I have Type 1 diabetes, a constant companion since childhood. While the news of motherhood filled me with immense love, the question of how my diabetes would impact this journey bothered me.

The initial days were hard with doctor’s appointments and adjustments to my diabetes management routine.  Working with my healthcare team, we fine-tuned my blood sugar monitoring schedule, focusing on pre- and post-meal checks to ensure optimal levels. They also recommended a specialised nutritionist who helped to create a balanced diabetic pregnancy meal plan.

Exercise, my usual stress reliever, took on a new meaning. I switched to gentler prenatal yoga and brisk walks, staying active yet attuned to my body’s changing needs.
